March 2005: Cidermill delivers financial awareness training to Oracle
As the world´s largest enterprise software company, Oracle is universally recognised
as a source of rich database and applications software. Oracle sales people
are expected to have, and do have, excellent knowledge of the vast range of Oracle
software. But they must also be able to understand how a company will benefit from
their software and have the confidence to discuss with the Finance Director the
likely financial return of a project.
The best way to financially profile a sales prospect is to study the prospect´s
annual report. Based upon material from Cidermill´s general industry training
curriculum, we prepared a special training module for Oracle entitled ´How to
Read a Company Annual Report´. The training session included:
- How to obtain an annual report
- Overview of an Annual Report
- Understanding the Profit & Loss Statement
- Understanding the Balance Sheet
- Understanding the Cash Flow Statement
- Identifying sales opportunities from the Annual Report
The students were able to put into practice what they had learned in a realistic
sales case study, which included an interview with the Finance Director and concluded
with a boardroom presentation.
